Which language am I supposed to be speaking again?

So, all hail the crappiest first week ever! As of Monday I was still not enrolled in my Greek archaeology course. I went bright and early to buy my books at the Greenroom, our used bookstore, and they had absolutely bupkiss, except for some books for next term, but that meant that on top of having to buy all my language textbooks new, I had to get my classics ones new as well. I actually decided for one of them that I'm not even going to buy it, but am going to borrow chantal's copy and xerox the six chapters of it that we need to read, and screw international copyright laws. My profs do make me sigh, though. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love the classics department, but they can be a bit flakey (probably why I get along so well with them...) Prof. Foley had no idea how much the book cost until someone in the class told her, tough she did point out that it was the text for two courses, but still...

I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew. Due to various course complication and the fact that the Queen's corse calender is whack, I am taking three different languages this semester: Latin, Italian and French. I am very confused.

I haven't taken French in over five years, and god knows even then my grammer was shit, so it was with some trepidation that I arrived for my intermediate french class, designed for those who have completed grade 11 or 12 french, which I most certainly have not. We were given a little test, where we had to write a discription of a cartoon, and then we went around the class, introducing ourselves and answering a question posed to us by the prof. At the end of the class, which was conducted all in french, I was really lost. At the start of the next lesson, the prof was handing back out tests, calling out the names of the ppl he needed to speak to. He told the girl infront of me that he didn't think her french was up to the class, and that she should go down the hall to the beginner frech class. I'm bracing myself to hear the same thing, since I feel so lost, but it turns out he had called my up because he said my french was too good, so now I'm in the intermediate class, which is a good thing, as the prof is much better and the class alot less surly. Downside is, I had to buy a new textbook, and I had already opened the other one, so I can't return it, which is $130 down the drain.

My Italian professor is great. Her name is Brigitte, and she's swiss, and she looks like Burnadette Peters with bright orange hair, and is always flitting around the class going "bene, bene!" and "et alora".

I also woke up with terrible allergies Monday morning, which by that afternoon had morphed into the worst flu I've had in years. I went to Latin just long enough to pick up the course outline before going home and collapsing on the couch. Thank god we got rid of the futon; our old den couch is so much more comfortable, and it made me feel a bit better because it made me think of being sick at home, where my mummy can care for me.

Things are getting better, though. My computer is still AWOL, but I did manage to get a spot in Greek A&A. By Tuesday I wasn't feeling so feverish, and actually went to class, and now I am more or less back to normal except for a cough, which would be fine, except this is audition week. I have an audition for the student opera this Saturday, and then my dance Audition for Urintown on Sunday, with the vocal audition the following tuesday. I ran through my songs last night, and Fine, fine line was ok, but Nel cor piu non mi sento is going to be really rough. I also have to find time to memorise my monolgue this weekend, on top of all my homework and vocab, as well as going to to Elxier for Anna's second birthday party. Sigh. The life of a student. Oh, and plus I was out at gusto's last night with some of the girls from Nelson and Anna and Meg for cocktails and appitizers. Overextended? Naw...

I'm taking on a lot on this semester too. Don't make my mistake of worrying about stuff too far in the future. I'm working myself up about stuff that doesn't matter yet. Good luck with all your auditions!
